People First Language Pledge
Words Matter! One in five Americans is a person with a disability, but, people are not and should not be defined by one thing alone.
Certain words and sayings are used in addressing or referencing people with disabilities which degrade them by only recognizing one part of the many complex parts which define who they are. Using People First Language is about having respect for all, by treating people as the whole person they wish to be treated as. Words Matter!
