IRA Charitable Roll Over

For The Arc NCR supporters age 70.5 or older, IRA gifts present a powerful way to save, while you give. Generally speaking, IRA gifts are always tax-free, and can help you reduce your future tax burden, meet your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) if you must take one, and you can make a meaningful impact for the adults, children, and families we support while aligning your giving with your financial goals.

Benefits of IRA:

  • You can distribute up to $108,000 from your IRA directly to a qualified charity like The Arc NCR without having to pay income taxes on the distribution.
  • The transfer generates neither taxable income nor a tax deduction, so you benefit even if you do not itemize your deductions.
  • If your spouse who is 70.5 or older and has an IRA, they can also give up to $108,000 from their IRA.

To make an IRA gift to The Arc NCR, please contact your IRA custodian.

Wills and Trusts

Everyone should have an estate plan to support their future and protect what they love. And by including a bequest to The Arc NCR in your plans, you can create a legacy that supports people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities for generations to come.

Why do I need a will?
Everyone should have an estate plan to support their future and protect what they love. A will (or revocable trust) is the best way to:
• Protect the people and communities you love
• Save your family stress and complications by giving exact instructions on how to handle your estate
• Start a legacy with The Arc NCR that champions inclusion, dignity, and opportunity for people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities

To include The Arc NCR in your will or trust, seek the advice of your financial or legal advisor. If you have already named us in your will or trust, please let us know so we can ensure that your gift is used according to your wishes. Notifying us at development@arcncr.org of your plans will enable us to plan for the use of your future gift.

Retirement Plans and Life Insurance

You can turn your retirement assets or life insurance policy into a lasting gift to The Arc NCR. Naming us as a beneficiary allows you to support our mission while potentially receiving tax benefits. It’s a simple, flexible way to leave a legacy that strengthens inclusive communities for people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.

It is very simple to name The Arc NCR as a beneficiary. Start by requesting a change-of-beneficiary form from your policy administrator or download the form from your provider’s website. Make your desired changes and return the form to establish your gift.

The Ruth Miller Legacy Society

Planned Giving is an important type of donation that typically involves documenting a future gift to ensure people with intellectual and developmental disabilities will have access to The Arc NCR’s programs and services for many years to come. By making a planned gift, you automatically join the Ruth Miller Legacy Society.

Ruth Miller is a founding member of The Arc NCR. In 1953, she worked with nine other families from Harford and Cecil Counties and started the organization, now known as The Arc NCR, in their basement. Mrs. Miller spent a lifetime advocating for the rights of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Though Mrs. Miller passed away on February 8, 2021 at the age of 100, her legacy lives on and continues to inspire the next generation in empowering those with differing abilities to live, work and thrive in the community.

Legacy Society Reception

In memory of the legacy that Ruth Miller leaves behind as one of the founding family members of our chapter of The Arc, we have an annual Legacy Society Reception to celebrate and appreciate the contributions of others who are planning future donations to The Arc NCR through our Ruth Miller Legacy Society.
